CRIMESTOPPERS

Crimestoppers may pay a reward of up to $1,000 for an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest in any crime. Anonymous tips can be called into the Crimestoppers Tip Line 24 hours per day, seven days per week at (704) 736-8909.

TIPS NEEDED

On Aug. 30, 2009, a residence on Buffalo Run off Buffalo Shoals Road was broken into. An Apple Mac laptop, a Nintendo Wii, a Sony Playstation 2 console, a Sony handcam video recorder and $12,000 in jewelry were taken. On Aug. 31, 2009, a residence on Horseshoe Lake Road was broken into. An Envision 32 inch flat screen TV and 3,000 in jewelry were taken. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers of Lincolnton/Lincoln County at (704) 736-8909. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in any crime is eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

TIPS NEEDED

Sometime on or about Aug. 24, 2009, unknown suspects cut the lock on a storage trailer that was parked in the 7000 block of Old Plank Road in Stanley. Once inside, the suspects removed approximately $3,000 in various power tools. If anyone has any information about this crime, call Crimestoppers of Lincolnton/Lincoln County at (704) 736-8909. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest in any crime are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

TIPS NEEDED

On August 5, 2009, Jean Houk reported a platinum 18 karat gold diamond ring stolen from her residence on Highway 150 East in Lincoln County. The ring was last seen around March 10, 2009. The value of the ring was $3,200. Detective Sally Dellinger had Mrs. Houk do a drawing of the ring. A pair of 14 karat yellow gold earrings, a 10 karat yellow gold bracelet, a set of 14 karat yellow gold dangle earrings and a set of 14 karat yellow gold hoop earrings were also taken. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers of Lincolnton/Lincoln County at (704) 736-8909. Callers can remain anonymous and may receive a reward of up to $1,000.

On August 5, 2009, a house under construction on Blair Drive in Lincolnton was entered and approximately 200 feet of 14 guage electrical wire was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at (704) 732-9050 or Crimestoppers of Lincolnton/Lincoln County at (704) 736-8909. Callers remain anonymous and can receive a reward of up to $1,000.

Detention Center

The Detention Unit includes four cell blocks and one large dormitory with a maximum capacity of 168 inmates. Each cell block has 16 individual cells which accommodate two inmates each. Intake and mugshot center The individual cells may be locked to prevent the inmates from accessing the common area of the cell block. The large dormitory is used to house low security inmates and trustees. It consists of 40 beds along the periphery of a large common area. The detention unit is state-of-the-art with all doors, both interior and exterior, being computer controlled from a secured central location within the facility.

Use Your ATM Safely

Be Aware of Suspicious Persons Near the ATM Machine

· Be Observant
The most important key to using your ATM card safely is to be observant and look around for any suspicious persons or activity near the ATM machine. If you see anything that looks suspicious, go to another machine or return later. · Have Your Card in Your Hand
It is a good idea to have your ATM card in your hand and ready to use as you approach the ATM machine so that you do not have to take extra time at the machine to take the card out of your wallet or purse. · Shield Your Transaction
Use your body or hand or an object to shield the ATM keyboard when you enter your PIN. Do not give someone else the opportunity to see the number that you are entering. · Don't Leave Your Receipt
Be sure to take your receipt or transaction records with you when you leave. · Put Away Your Cash
Put your cash away immediately in your pocket, wallet or purse. Do not display or count it at the machine. You can always count it later. · Keep Your Car Secured
Lock your car if you have to get out to use the ATM machine. If you use a drive-up ATM machine, lock all doors and be sure the passenger-side windows are rolled up. Using an ATM at Night· If possible, take another person with you. · Park in a well-lighted area as close to the machine as possible. · Do not use the machine if the lights on it are not working. · If the view of the ATM machine is blocked by overgrown shrubbery or trees, or any other objects, use another machine. · Notify the bank about the visibility problem.

Larry Stanley is the new Chief Deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Larry has over 30 years of experience with the Sheriff's Office. Having worked his way up through the ranks during his career, Larry is very knowledgeable with all aspects of the Sheriff's Office. COMMUNITY AWARENESS
Property crime continues to be a problem in the county. Secure lawn and garden equipment in locked areas and don't leave them in your yards or carports. As a deterrent to crime, lighting is a good security measure to take. Install adequate lighting on your property especially around buildings and vehicles. Join or start a local Neighborhood Watch program and if there is not one in your neighborhood, consider starting one.
